After a successful career in Higher Education that spans more than 40 years, Dr. Jerrold (Jerry) Stein continues to do what he’s done best: offering guidance and support to the Higher Education community. Jerry has supervised and inspired hundreds of staff in Residence Life for more than 25 years and dozens more at the senior administrative level for 15 years when he served as an Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. Jerry has a knack for creating a team and inspiring and motivating individuals and groups. With an authentic and genuine style, Jerry has helped many succeed both professionally and personally. Over the course of his tenure, several of the staff he supervised rose to the highest ranks in Student Affairs.

In his last full-time role, Jerry served as the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Stony Brook University, a major research University with 25,000 students. In this role he supervised more than 200 staff members and oversaw several units including Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, the Division of Student Life, Student Engagement, Campus Recreation, Multicultural Affairs, Commuter Student Services and the Center for Prevention and Outreach. Upon his retirement in 2014, Jerry was bestowed the title, “Dean Emeritus” and was invited back to the University in a consultative role to serve as the Senior Advisor to the Vice President for Student Affairs. In this capacity he supported organizational transitions, including divisional restructuring, coordinated two Executive level searches and offered guidance to three different Vice Presidents.
